Aldo Rossi: Architecture 1981-1991

Winner of the 1990 Pritzker Architecture Prize, Aldo Rossi gained international recognition as a practicing architect, artist, and theorist. Rossis' projects in the decade 1981-1991 are collected in this award-winning book: it received an AIA International Book Award in 1992; and Honorable Mention for graphic design in ID magazine, and a Certificate of Merit from the Printing Industry of America.

Among the 61 works presented are Il Palazzo Hotel, Fukuoka, Japan; German History Museum, Berlin; San Carlo alla Barona Church, Milan; and Office Complex for Disney, Orlando. Karen Stein's descriptive texts and afterword are accompanied by introductions by Morris Adjmi and Diane Ghirardo and an essay by Aldo Rossi. Also included is a complete project chronology and bibliography.

Aldo Rossi: The Sketchbooks 1990-97

Aldo Rossi's drawings capture the essence of his multidisciplinary approach to design and architecture. From his treatise: The Architecture of the City" (1966) and his seminal "Cemetery of San Cataldo" (1971) to his popular "Hotel II Palazzo in Fukuoka" (1987) and his recent housing project in Berlin (1992-98), his paper explorations and renderings were an integral part of his creative process and a key to understanding the meaning behind his architecture. This volume collects over 200 of Rossi's most recent and largely unpublished drawings, executed between 1991 and his death in 1997. From his musings on "Casa Alessi" (1989-94) to his projects for the Walt Disney Corporation (1996), each drawing conveys his individuality and idiosyncrasies and act as personal documents of his life and work.

Aldo Rossi: Drawings and Paintings

Aldo Rossi is admired as much for his artistic ability as for his architectural design skill. His drawings, paintings, and renderings have been exhibited in museums and galleries from New York to Moscow, and formed the basis of a 1991 retrospective at the Pompidou Center in Paris.

This elegant book collects over 200 color reproductions and 200 black and white reproductions of his drawings and paintings together in a companion volume to Aldo Rossi: Architecture "1981-1991". An introduction by the editors explores the themes common to Rossi's architectural and drawn oeuvre, and an essay by critic and art historian Carter Ratcliff situates Rossi's graphic work in the context of contemporary art.

Together the text and plates offer an insight into the creative mind of one of the most important architects in practice today.
